How to Add Custom Fonts

Summary

Overview: The Custom Fonts app lets you upload your own font files, such as your brand font, and use them anywhere you choose a Font Family. You can upload up to 3 fonts.

Prerequisites:

  • A store on the Launch, Grow, Scale or free trial plan.
  • Your font files in .TTF, .OTF, .WOFF or .WOFF2 format, and the right to use them on a website.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Custom Fonts app

  1. In the left sidebar, click Marketplace.
  2. On the All tab, find the custom fonts app (marked FREE!) and click Learn More.
  3. Click Free — Activate. You see App activated successfully! and the button changes to Activated.

Step 2: Upload your font

  1. Open your store's design settings: in the sidebar, click Max AI, then AI Studio, then Colors & Styles.
  2. Open any Font Family list and click Font Settings at the bottom of the list.
  3. In the Upload a Font window, add your font file. Keep it under 2.5 MB (see Troubleshooting).
  4. Drag the files to reorder them if you like.
  5. Click Save.

If the app isn't active yet, an Activate Custom Fonts window appears instead. Click Go to Marketplace and do Step 1.

Step 3: Use your font

  1. Open any Font Family list again.
  2. Choose your font under Uploaded Fonts.
  3. Save your design settings.

Remove a font

  1. Click Font Settings in any Font Family list.
  2. Click the delete icon next to the font.
  3. In Delete Font, click Confirm. Text that used this font switches to a system default font.
  4. Click Save.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • Your font is listed under Uploaded Fonts in every Font Family list.
  • After you save and reload your online store, text that uses the font shows in it.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "3 number of fonts limit reached.": you already have 3 fonts. Delete one first.
  • "Warning - test 4 MB recommended max size limit exceeded.": the file is too big. Files of 2.5 MB or more are rejected, even though the window says Max Size: 4 MB. Use a smaller file, for example a .WOFF2 version of the font.
  • The Activate Custom Fonts window opens: the app isn't active. Click Go to Marketplace and activate it.
  • A crown icon shows next to Font Settings: your plan doesn't include custom fonts. See How to Choose a Prosperna Plan.

Limitations & considerations

  • You can upload up to 3 fonts.
  • Accepted types: .TTF, .OTF, .WOFF, .WOFF2.
  • Deleting a font affects every page that uses it.
