Summary

Overview: This is what your customers see when your store offers the Senior Citizen and PWD discount. They send their ID once from My Account, you review it, and after approval the 20% discount and VAT exemption are applied automatically whenever they check out while logged in. Share this article with customers who ask how to claim their discount.

Prerequisites:

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: The customer sends their ID

  1. The customer logs in to your online store and opens My Account.
  2. In the account menu they click Senior/PWD Discount. The page only appears for stores that offer the discount.
  3. They choose the ID type: Senior Citizen or Person with Disability (PWD).
  4. They fill in ID number and Full name on the ID.
  5. They add a photo for Front of ID and one for Back of ID.
  6. They tick both boxes:
    • This ID is mine and I will only use the discount for my own purchases.
    • I allow [your store] to keep my ID details and photos to check my discount, under the Data Privacy Act.
  7. They click Send for review and see Your ID was sent to the store for review.

Step 2: The customer waits for your decision

The page then shows a status card with the ID type, the name, the last 4 digits of the ID number and a badge:

Badge What the customer sees
Under review Your store is reviewing the ID. They can keep shopping; the discount applies once it is approved
Approved The discount applies automatically at checkout while logged in, plus Valid until if you set an expiry
Not approved Your reason, your store's email and phone if saved, and a Replace ID photos link
No longer active You revoked the approval. A Send my ID again button appears
Expired The approval expired. A Send my ID again button appears

After a Not approved decision the customer can click Replace ID photos, add a New front photo or New back photo, and click Send new photos. The ID goes back to Under review.

See How to Review Senior Citizen and PWD IDs for your side of this.

Step 3: The customer checks out

In checkout, the Senior Citizen / PWD discount box shows one of these:

  • Not logged in: Senior Citizen or PWD? Log in to claim your 20% discount.
  • Logged in, no ID sent yet: Senior Citizen or PWD? Send your ID in My Account. Once the store approves it, the 20% discount applies automatically.
  • ID under review: The store is still reviewing your ID. You can place this order now; the discount applies to your orders once your ID is approved.
  • ID not approved: Your ID was not approved by the store. with a See details link.
  • Approved: the switch Apply my Senior/PWD discount to this order, on by default.

With the Senior's share option, an approved customer also picks How many people will share this order? using the − and + buttons. They can raise the number but not lower it below what the items in the cart imply.

Step 4: The customer sees the discount in the totals

The order summary shows the discount as its own lines:

  • VAT exempt: (only when your prices include VAT)
  • Senior/PWD discount (20%):, with , share 1 of 4 added when the senior's share is used.

Under them, the reminder Please present your Senior Citizen or PWD ID upon delivery or pickup.

The same lines appear on the order in My Orders and in the order confirmation email, together with the ID name and the masked ID number.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • The customer's Senior/PWD Discount page shows the green Approved badge.
  • At checkout, Apply my Senior/PWD discount to this order is switched on and the totals show the Senior/PWD discount (20%): line.
  • The placed order shows the discount lines and the ID details in My Orders and in the confirmation email.

Troubleshooting

Common errors (what the customer sees)

  • "Upload a JPG or PNG photo.": the file is another format. Take a photo or save it as JPG or PNG.
  • "Each photo must be 10 MB or smaller.": use a smaller photo.
  • "Add a photo of the front of your ID." / "Add a photo of the back of your ID.": both sides are required on a first submission.
  • "Enter your ID number." / "Enter your full name as shown on the ID.": these fields are required. The ID number needs at least 3 characters.
  • "Please tick both boxes to continue.": both consent boxes must be ticked.
  • "You already have an application with this store.": an ID is already under review or approved for this account.
  • "This store does not offer the Senior/PWD discount.": the store turned the add-on off.
  • "No items in your cart are covered by this store's Senior/PWD discount, or a better promo already applies.": nothing in the cart falls under the products you chose in Applies to, or a coupon already gives more off those items.

Limitations & considerations

  • The discount is personal: it only applies while the customer is logged in to the account whose ID you approved. Guest checkout never gets it.
  • Each customer account has one ID application per store. They send it to each store separately.
  • A line in the cart gets either the statutory discount or a coupon discount, whichever is better, never both.
  • The customer can switch the discount off for a single order with the Apply my Senior/PWD discount to this order switch.
  • The largest number of people an order can be shared between is 50.
  • Your store does not send the customer an email about your decision. They see it on the Senior/PWD Discount page the next time they open it.
