Summary

Overview: Product labels are small badges, such as New or Sale, shown on top of a product's image in your store. They help customers spot promotions and new arrivals. Your store comes with three ready-made labels (New, Sale and Best Seller), and you can design your own with your text, colours, shape, position and the dates it shows. Each product can carry up to two labels.

Prerequisites:

  • A store on the Launch, Grow, Scale or Premium Trial plan.
  • Store owner access, or a team member with Store settings & administration access. To pick labels on a product, the team member also needs Products access.
  • At least one product. See How to Add Your First Product.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Create a label

  1. In the sidebar, click Products, then Product Labels.
  2. Click Add Product Label. The Add Product Label page opens, with a Preview of the label on a sample product card.
  3. Under Details, fill in:
    • Name (required, up to 30 characters): for your reference in the label list.
    • Text (required, up to 12 characters): the words shown on the label.
    • Duration: the Start Date and Start Time (both required) when the label starts showing. To stop showing it on a set date, tick Set End Date and fill in End Date and End Time.
  4. Under Colors and Style, choose:
    • Label Style: Sharp, Rounded, Circle, Capsule, Oval, Square, Diamond, Triangle or Ribbon.
    • Position: where the label sits on the image, from Upper Left to Bottom Right (nine positions). Ribbon labels can only go in a corner (Upper Left, Upper Right, Bottom Left or Bottom Right), and choosing Ribbon moves the label to Upper Left.
    • Height and Width of the label.
    • Background Color.
  5. Under Text, choose the Font Family, the Font Size (12 to 18) and the text Color.
  6. Under Margin, set the space around the label: Up, Down, Left and Right (0 to 15 each).
  7. Click Save. You see Successfully created product label. and return to the label list.

Step 2: Apply the label to products

From the label page:

  1. On the Add Product Label or Edit Product Label page, go to Apply to Products.
  2. Click Add Product. A list of your products opens. Use Search... to find products.
  3. Tick the products, then click Add. You see Successfully added product label to selected product(s).

From a product:

  1. Open the product from Products → Inventory.
  2. In the Product Label box, choose up to two labels. The counter under the box shows how many you've chosen, for example 1/2 Labels.
  3. Click Save at the bottom of the product form.

This is also how you apply the ready-made New, Sale and Best Seller labels.

To remove a label from products: on the label's Apply to Products table, click the trash icon on a product's row, or tick several products and click Delete. In Delete Product, click Confirm. You see Successfully removed product label from selected product(s). This only removes the label. The products themselves aren't deleted.

Step 3: View, edit or delete a label

  1. On Products → Product Labels, the table shows each label's Preview, Name, Text, Date Created and Date Updated.
  2. To see a label, click the ... icon in its Actions column, then View. View Product Label shows its details, the products it's applied to (Apply To) and its Duration.
  3. To change it, click Edit, make your changes on Edit Product Label, and click Save. You see Successfully updated product label.
  4. To delete it, click the ... icon, then Delete. In the Warning box (You are about to delete this product label. Do you wish to proceed?), click Confirm. You see Successfully deleted product label.

Step 4: See what your customers get

The label appears on the product's image in your store's product listings and on the product page. It only shows between its start date and time and its end date and time. Without an end date, it keeps showing.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • You see Successfully created product label. and the label appears on Products → Product Labels with a preview.
  • View Product Label lists the products under Apply To.
  • After the start date and time, the label shows on those products' images in your store.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "Required*": fill in Name, Text, Start Date and Start Time. If Set End Date is ticked, also fill in End Date and End Time.
  • "Image label name already exists.": another label already has this name. Choose a different Name.
  • "Failed to update default image label.": the name you typed matches one of the ready-made labels (for example New or Sale). Choose a different Name.
  • "2 product labels limit reached.": a product can carry only two labels. Remove one in the Product Label box before choosing another.
  • "No Products Available" (Every product already has this label, or you have no products yet.): the list only shows products that don't have this label yet and have fewer than two labels.
  • The label doesn't show in my store: check its Duration. It shows only after the start date and time and before the end date and time.

Limitations & considerations

  • Each product can carry up to two labels.
  • The ready-made New, Sale and Best Seller labels can't be edited or deleted. You can still apply them to products.
  • If your store moves to the Free plan, the labels you created are removed from your products. The ready-made labels stay.
