Summary

Overview: The Region section shows your store's country and currency and lets you choose its timezone. US stores also get a Multi-Currency section, where you can add other currencies so international customers can browse and pay in a currency they know.

Prerequisites:

  • For Multi-Currency: a US store with Stripe connected and switched on in Settings → Payments. See How to Set Up Payments for Your Store.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Check your country and currency

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Settings → Store.
  2. In the Store Settings menu, click Region.
  3. Country shows the country your store was created in. It can't be changed here.
  4. Currency shows your store currency (for example ₱ (PHP) - Philippine Peso). It is set by your country and can't be changed.

Step 2: Set your timezone

  1. Under Timezone, choose your timezone from the list. It is used for order timestamps, reports and scheduled operations.
  2. Click Save. The button stays greyed out until you change something.
  3. In the Change Timezone? window, read the note and click Ok.
  4. You see Regional settings updated successfully.

Step 3 (US stores): Turn on Multi-Currency

  1. In the Store Settings menu, click Multi-Currency.
  2. Switch on the toggle at the top of the section. You see Successfully updated multi-currency status.
  3. Your store currency appears under Store Currency with a Default badge. All product prices are still set in this currency.

If the toggle is greyed out, the section tells you what to fix:

  • To enable multi-currency, connect your Stripe account in Payment Settings.
  • To enable multi-currency, enable Stripe payments in Payment Settings.

Click Payment Settings to fix it, then come back.

You can also start from Marketplace: open the Multi-currency card and click Activate. If Stripe isn't ready, you're taken to Payment Settings. Otherwise you're taken to this section.

Step 4 (US stores): Add a currency

  1. Under Additional Currencies, click Add Currency.
  2. On the Add Currency page, choose a Currency: PHP - Philippine Peso, CAD - Canadian Dollar, MXN - Mexican Peso, AUD - Australian Dollar or NZD - New Zealand Dollar.
  3. Enter the Exchange Rate (1 USD = the amount in the new currency).

Tip: set your rate slightly above the current market rate to cover the ~1% Stripe currency conversion fee that applies when customers pay in a different currency.

  4. Under Display Options, choose:
    • Rounding Rule: No rounding, Round up, Round down or Round to nearest.
    • Charm Pricing: None, .99, .95 or .49, to replace the cents.
  5. Check the Preview, which converts a sample $99.99 USD product.
  6. Click Save. You see Successfully added currency.

Step 5 (US stores): Edit or remove a currency

  1. In the Additional Currencies table, click the ⋮ menu on the currency's row.
  2. To change the rate or display options, click Edit, make your changes and click Update. You see Successfully updated currency.
  3. To remove it, click Delete, then Remove Currency in the confirmation window. You see Successfully deleted currency.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • Region shows your new Timezone after you reload the page.
  • (US stores) The Additional Currencies table lists each currency with its Exchange Rate (for example 1 USD = 1.37 CAD).
  • (US stores) The currency menu in your online store's header lists the added currencies.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "Required"* under Exchange Rate: enter a rate before saving.
  • "Exchange rate must be greater than 0": enter a positive rate.
  • "Failed to update regional settings": the timezone didn't save. Try again.
  • "Multi-currency has been disabled because your Stripe account was disconnected." or "Multi-currency has been disabled because Stripe payments were turned off.": Multi-Currency switches off when Stripe stops working. Reconnect or switch on Stripe in Payment Settings, then switch Multi-Currency on again.
  • I can't change my country: the country is set when the store is created. Email support if it needs to change.

Limitations & considerations

  • Multi-Currency is available for US stores only. Philippine stores don't see the section.
  • Exchange rates are set manually and don't update automatically. Update them regularly. You may gain or lose money when rates move.
  • You can add up to 5 additional currencies. When all are added, you see All available currencies have been added.
  • Removing a currency can't be undone. Customers can no longer browse or pay in it.
  • Changing your timezone changes how existing order times are displayed.
