Summary
Overview: The cookie notice tells visitors that your online store uses cookies and asks them to Accept or Decline. It helps you meet privacy rules like GDPR and CCPA. You choose a light or dark style, show it as a banner or a side panel, and link it to your privacy policy.
Prerequisites:
- A web address (URL) for your privacy or cookie policy page.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open Cookie Policy
- In the left sidebar, go to Page Builder → Design Settings.
- Click the Cookie Policy tab.
Step 2: Set up the notice
- Make sure the Cookie Policy switch is on. When it's on, the notice shows on your online store's pages.
- Under Mode:, choose Light or Dark. Always click one of them, even if you want to keep the current look (see Limitations).
- Under Display As:, choose:
- Banner: a bar across the page.
- Side Panel: a panel in a corner. Then choose its Position:, Left or Right.
- Under Policy Link, enter the web address of your privacy policy, for example www.yourstore.com/privacy-policy. Visitors open it from the LEARN MORE. link in the notice.
- Check the Preview.
- Click Save. You see Settings successfully updated.
The Save button stays greyed out until you change something.
Step 3: Turn the notice off (optional)
- Make sure Policy Link has a valid web address. The field is locked once the switch is off, and Save won't work while it's empty.
- Switch Cookie Policy off.
- Click Save.
What your customers see
The notice says We use cookies to ensure you get the best browsing experience and service. By accepting, you agree to our privacy policy and accept our use of cookies. For more information, click LEARN MORE., with Decline and Accept buttons. It stays until the visitor clicks one of them. If a visitor declines, Prosperna stops collecting visitor analytics for them.
Verify It Worked
Success criteria:
- After you reload Design Settings, the Cookie Policy tab shows your choices, with Light or Dark selected.
- In a private browser window, your online store shows the notice in the style and position you chose.
Troubleshooting
Common errors
- "Required"* under Policy Link: enter your policy's web address. This is needed even when you're turning the notice off. Switch Cookie Policy back on, enter the link, switch it off and click Save.
- "Invalid Web Url": check the address for typos, for example www.yourstore.com/privacy.
- "Cookie Policy required" when adding Website Traffic in Analytics: turn on the cookie notice here first.
- I don't see the notice on my store: the notice only shows to visitors who haven't clicked Accept or Decline yet. Open your store in a private browser window to see it again.
Limitations & considerations
- If you've never saved this tab, the cookie notice may already be on, with neither Light nor Dark selected. In that state, the preview shows a light notice but your online store shows a dark one. Choose Light or Dark and click Save to make them match.
- A visitor's choice is remembered in their browser, so they don't see the notice again.
- Declining only affects Prosperna's own visitor analytics. Scripts you add in Scripts & Analytics still load. See How to Add Tracking Codes and Analytics.
