Summary

Overview: Add-ons are extras a customer can choose on a product page before adding the product to the cart, such as toppings for a milk tea or an accessory for a gadget. Each add-on has a name, a price and an optional description. You create add-ons once in Products → Add-ons, then pick which ones each product offers. The add-on price is added to the product price in the cart.

Prerequisites:

  • A store on the Launch, Grow, Scale or Premium Trial plan.
  • Store owner access, or a team member with Add-ons access. To attach add-ons to a product, the team member also needs Products access.
  • At least one product. See How to Add Your First Product.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Create an add-on

  1. In the sidebar, click Products, then Add-ons.
  2. Click Create Add-on.
  3. In Create New Add-on, fill in:
    • Add-on (required): the name customers see, for example Black Pearl.
    • Price (required): the extra amount charged for this add-on.
    • Description (optional).
  4. Click Save. You see Successfully created add-on. and the add-on appears in the table.

The table shows each add-on's Add-on name, Price, Date Created and Date Updated. Use Search... to find an add-on by name, and click a column header to sort.

Step 2: Edit or delete an add-on

To edit an add-on:

  1. On Products → Add-ons, click the ... icon in the add-on's Actions column, then View.
  2. View Details shows the add-on's details. Click Edit.
  3. In Edit Details, change the Add-on, Price or Description, then click Save. You see Successfully updated add-on.

To delete an add-on:

  1. Click the ... icon in the add-on's Actions column, then Delete.
  2. In Delete Add-On (Do you want to delete this Add-on?), click Delete. You see Successfully deleted add-on.

Step 3: Attach add-ons to a product

  1. In the sidebar, click Products, then Inventory, and open the product (or start a new one).
  2. Scroll to the Add-ons section (or click Add-Ons in the side menu of the product form). It lists all your add-ons with their Add-on, Description and Price.
  3. Tick the add-ons this product should offer.
    • To create a new add-on without leaving the product, click Add Product Add-ons, fill in Create New Add-on, and click Save. Then tick it.
  4. Optional: click Set Limits to open Set a Choice Limit:
    • None. Users can choose an unlimited amount of add-ons.
    • Limit is: use - and + (or type a number, minimum 1) to set the limit.
    • Click Close. The section shows Limits: None or Limits: followed by your number.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the product form.

Step 4: See what your customers get

  1. On the product page, an Add-ons section lists each add-on as a button showing its name and price, for example Black Pearl - ₱ 10.00.
  2. The customer clicks an add-on to select it. Unless the limit is 1, - and + buttons appear next to it so the customer can choose how many of that add-on they want.
  3. When they add the product to the cart, the cart lists the chosen add-ons under the product.
  4. The price of each add-on (times its quantity) is added to the product's price, and that total is multiplied by the number of products in the cart.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • You see Successfully created add-on. and the add-on appears on Products → Add-ons.
  • When you reopen the product, the add-ons you ticked are still ticked and the Limits value is what you set.
  • On your store's product page, the Add-ons section shows the add-ons you ticked, with their prices.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "Addon name already exists.": another add-on already uses this name, or a name that contains it. The check ignores capital letters, so Pearl is blocked if Black Pearl exists. Choose a different name.
  • "Required*" under Add-on or Price: fill in both fields before clicking Save.
  • "Invalid Number" under Price when editing: in Edit Details, Price only accepts whole numbers (digits only, no decimal point). If the add-on needs a price with centavos or cents, delete it and create it again with Create Add-on, which accepts decimals.
  • "Something went wrong in deleting an add-on": the add-on wasn't deleted. Refresh the page and try again.
  • I can't tick add-ons on the product form: you need Create permission for Add-ons. Ask the store owner to update your permissions.
  • Customers don't see the Add-ons section: check that you ticked the add-ons and clicked Save on the product. The section is also hidden when the store doesn't show the Add to cart button, for example when it only shows the Request for Quotation button. See How to Turn On Checkout for Your Store.

Limitations & considerations

  • Each add-on is a single option with one price. There are no add-on groups, and you can't make an add-on required.
  • The limit caps the quantity of each add-on a customer picks. It doesn't cap how many different add-ons they select. With a limit of 1, each add-on can be picked once.
  • Add-ons are shared across your store. Editing an add-on's name or price changes it on every product that offers it.
  • You can also offer add-ons on digital products.
