| Add to Cart and Buy Now: Launch, Grow, Scale and the free trial. Request for Quotation: Grow and Scale only (not during the free trial) | Store owner, or a team member with access to Store Settings | About 2 minutes | Beginner |
Summary
Overview: Business Operations controls how customers buy from your online store. Turn on Add to Cart so customers can check out and you start receiving orders. Or, on Grow and Scale, replace it with a Request for Quotation button that sends customers to your own link.
Prerequisites:
- Your store is set up. See How to Set Up Your Store with Max AI.
- For Request for Quotation: a paid Grow or Scale plan. It isn't available during the free trial.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open Business Operations
- In the left sidebar, go to Settings → Store.
- Business Operations is the first section on the page.
Step 2: Turn on Add to Cart (to accept orders)
- Switch Display Add to Cart Button on. This adds an Add to Cart button to every product in your online store and turns on order processing.
- (Optional) Switch on Display Buy Now Button on the Product Listing to show a Buy Now button next to Add to Cart in your product lists.
- (Optional) Switch on Display Buy Now Button on the Individual Product Pages to show it on each product's page.
- Click Save.
Or: Use Request for Quotation instead (Grow and Scale)
Use this if you take bookings or send quotes instead of selling at a fixed price.
- Switch Request Quotations/Book Appointments on. This replaces the Add to Cart button on all products.
- Enter a Button Name. It's Request for Quotation by default.
- Enter the URL customers go to when they click the button. By default, it's your store's Contact Us page.
- Check the Button Preview, then click Save.
Also check your Store mode
Business Operations decides which button your products show. Mode, on Page Builder → All Pages, decides whether the shop pages exist for shoppers at all:
- Online store: Products, Cart and Checkout are published.
- Catalog with inquiries (Grow and Scale): Products stays published, Cart and Checkout are unpublished. Picking it also switches Request Quotations/Book Appointments on here, and leaving it switches the setting back to Add to Cart.
- Website only: Products, Cart and Checkout are all unpublished.
So if you turned Display Add to Cart Button on and customers still can't check out, check the Store mode. See How to Choose Your Store Mode.
New stores: your shop pages start unpublished and publish by themselves the first time you make a product live, so checkout never opens on an empty catalogue. Stores that were already live keep their pages exactly as shoppers saw them.
Verify It Worked
Success criteria: open your online store. Your products show the button you chose: Add to Cart (plus Buy Now if you turned it on), or your custom quotation button.
Troubleshooting
Common errors
- The Buy Now switches are greyed out: turn on Display Add to Cart Button first. Buy Now only works alongside Add to Cart.
- The Request Quotations switch is greyed out (crown icon): this feature is exclusive to the Grow and Scale plans. See How to Choose a Prosperna Plan.
- "Email and SMTP settings are not yet setup in your account. Go to Messaging Settings.": set up your store's email in Messaging Settings so your customers get order emails.
Limitations & considerations
- Add to Cart and Request for Quotation can't be on at the same time. Turning one on turns the other off.
- If you switch both off, customers can browse your products but can't buy or request a quote.
- While the Cart page is unpublished, the cart icon is hidden from your store's header, and the cart and checkout pages aren't served. While the product listing is unpublished, shoppers who open it are sent to your home page. The Thank you page always stays published, because shoppers land on it after paying.
- If you use the QR Code Menu app, its settings (store location and number of tables) also appear in this section.
